Review is the stage at which legal professionals determine record status, such as privileged, responsive, confidential, etc. It is also at this stage that review teams can gain a deeper understanding of the factual and legal issues of the case. Depending on the results of review, it is sometimes necessary to revisit the processing or other earlier phases of the EDRM. Questions to resolve include (among others):

• Will there be concurrent reviewers who need their own sets of documents or access to images in a web repository?
• How will reviewer notes, comments, observations and questions be recorded?
• What are the factual and legal issues to be vetted?
• How will documents be organized and fact databases developed based on arising factual issues?
• Are there any filters that can be applied to reduce the scope of the review, e.g., date limitations, key custodians / directory locations, file types, etc.?
• Will there be a hybrid review of paper and electronic documents or will data be normalized electronically?
